After a century of service to the building, D&D Elevator was asked to provide new elevator equipment to the “Scribner Building”, located on 5th Avenue in New York City.
NOW THAT’S OLD! – After a century of service to the building, D&D Elevator was asked to provide new elevator equipment to the “Scribner Building”, located on 5th Avenue in New York City. The existing machinery and shaftway equipment was installed during the original construction in 1912. An electrical upgrade was performed in 1988 but, the elevator equipment had become obsolete when the manufacturer would no longer support the old model.
Working with the building’s consultant agency, they engineered a complete retrofit that included new machinery in the existing overhead machine rooms. These antiquated machines would not fit through any door or hallway and had to be cut into pieces to be removed from the building. They devised a system to minimize debris and noise conditions, keeping the existing tenants happy during the process.
New state of the art computerized controllers were installed to maximize efficiency and reduce wait times. Energy saving “Regenerative Drive” green technology was installed to reduce energy consumption.
